Coping or Adaptation? Characterizing Local Level Trajectories of Agrarian Change in Bulgaria and Southern Russia.

Lee-Ann Small is studying at the University of Aberdeen, UK. Her paper presented an analysis of local-level agrarian change processes in Bulgaria and southwestern Russia. She identified 15 common agrarian pathways on the basis of 151 qualitative interviews. The author has sought how the study participants coped with or adapted to post communist transition in society.

 

Inna Kopoteva (Finland)

Migrations as a Factor of instability of Rural Society

The author dealt with relationship between migration in rural areas and political and social instability. She demonstrated her theory on the case of Russia Karelia region. She also surveyed life conditions of inhabitants who stayed in regions handicapped by migration.

 

Lina Kriščiunaite (Lithuania)

Income of Lithuanian Farmers and Other Rural Inhabitants and it Influencing Factors

The student described the life conditions and situation in agricultural Lithuanian countryside. She analyzed structure of employment and incomes in agriculture and she has searched ways out.

 

Ildikó Nagy (Hungary)

Traditional folk culture, as part of rural development in Hungary

Rural regions should seek the local resources, the environment and the civic society for their development. The student illustrated how favourable it is to find them on the example of two regions in Hungary, which use historical folk traditions for development of these regions.

Effects of Organic Farmers’ Activity on Rural Development Paths in Internal Mezzogiorno

The author wrote about organic farming from the view of socio-economic influence on rural development. He divided and described three groups of organic farmers according to the questionnaire survey in region Mezzogiorno: traditional, pragmatic and idealistic.

Rural Development Versus Traditionalism and Synergy Versus Poverty in Rural Romania

The author explained situation in Romanian rural areas regarding post-communist transformation. On three different regions and villages he explained difficulties of implementation of new developing programs and market economy to Romanian agriculture

 

Eva Kučerová (Czech Republic)

Rural Anticipation Towards Welfare State (in Czech Republic with Comparison to Post-Socialist Europe)

The paper and presentation dealt with solution of social problems in frame of concept of the Welfare state. The author spoke about responsibility and participation of rural inhabitants in solution of social problems to use possibilities of endogenous rural development.

 

Karolina Radzka (Poland)

The Role of Individuals in the Process of Prompting Activities in Rural Communities, on the Need of a Local Leadership

The student engaged in the problem of unwillingness of rural inhabitants to be involved in public events of their municipalities and to take part in voluntary activities in NGOs. She emphasized the importance of competent leaders for development of municipalities.

 

Lise Herslund (Denmark)

From employed to self-employed – who is the rural entrepreneur?

The article explained the significant role of small entrepreneurialism for self-employment in Latvian rural areas. Two surveys were carried out in a rural parish in Rezekne district in Latvia in 2001. The author documented that development of entrepreneurial activities in different sector then in agriculture only is important for development of rural areas.

 

Bernadett Csurgó (Hungary)

Urban Pressure Phenomenon: The Valley of Arts Case.

The arts festival is held in region Káli-Basin from 1992. This every-year event has big significance for development and status of six villages, which lay in the region. The student reflected the urban pressure phenomenon on rural areas, it’s advantages and disadvantages.
